Laws Violation in Foča Continue

Even though Foča Municipality Assembly recently adopted a decision on widening the zones of narrow protection in order to prohibit deforestation and prevent erosion and muddying of waters, the activists emphasize that these are hypocritical measures since the decision to widening the protection zone was adopted while at the same time there is no reaction to illegal activities in the area.

Locals Not Giving Up On the Wounded River Bjelava

It is stated on the website of citizen association ''Bjelava'' Foča that ''We have witnessed that in all this time the local administration has not reacted, which is grounds for suspecting that they are complicit in these actions. Luckily, contrary to the municipality ones, there are higher institutions that are doing their job, and we hope that with theirs and the help of Foča residents, there will be no more machines on our river. She is wounded, and her wounds are severe, but not all is lost, and mother nature will make sure she recovers."

Građani ogorčeni, uprava šuti dok Bjelava nestaje

Izvještaji republičkih inspekcija pokazuju brojne nepravilnosti u toku "pripreme za geološka istraživanja", a trenutno se radovi izvode duž vodotoka Velika Bjelava bez koncesije, izvan oblasti obuhvaćenih projektom geoloških istraživanja, bez građevinske dozvole i bez vodne saglasnosti.

Mještani naselja Miljevina zabrinuti zbog problema sa vodosnabdijevanjem

"The concern of Miljevina residents is justified. They started having issues with their water supply, which has never happened before the construction of the small hydropower plant began.", state from the "Protect Foča Rivers", an informal group of residents and locals. In spite of the concern, the Assistant Minister of Energy and Mining has stated that there is "nothing problematic" with the construction activities.

Foča residents requesting a thematic session due to the devastation of Bjelava river

The assessment done by Foča Municipality does not indicate that Foča residents took part in arriving at the above decision, even though the Nature Preservation Law requires that the local government informs the public on the condition of nature and natural world within its territory, while the Law of Local Governance and the Municipality Statute (Article 16 of the Statute) require full citizen participation in local governance issues.
